For the week...

SCIENCE

This week we have begun a mini-project in Science. The students are using this website:

http://www.divediscover.whoi.edu/index.html

I have encouraged the students to explore the site and create a 2-minute oral presentation for next week in class. They can speak on any topic they want from the website, which is full of information. They are not allowed to copy and paste, which for this is plagiarism.

LA
- Spelling test on Friday
- 200-word spelling word story (use 8 of the 10 words) - due Friday

Math

"Extra practice 6" worksheet due Friday - I assigned #1 in class today because we just learned the concept of how to solve the problem. If the students work on it tonight, the concept will be fresh in mind.

Tuesday

Math homework - The students are to create a table displaying the results of 2n+2, from o-5. Then, they create a graph to display the results.

As well, there is a sheet called "Extra Practice 6", which is due Friday. The students have 3 nights to work on these problems. We are working on similar questions in class; so, this worksheet reinforces classwork, and classwork helps solve these problems.

Wow! One month till Christmas Eve.

Let me update you about homework...

LA - spelling test on Friday. Here are the words: scenario, villain, investigate, competition, you're, your, where, were, we're, wear. Those last ones are tricky, and middle school students still make the mistakes!

As well in LA, the Reading Journals were due today, as were the Booktalks. Booktalks continue tomorrow.

In Math, students are to create graphs displaying the results of a survey they did in class about favourite pops. We are beginning a section on graphing, as well as continuing with algebra.

On a side note...
I met with many of you during parent-teacher conferences last week, but I've also met with a number of you since then. Feel free to contact me if you have concerns or questions about Grade 7.

This week's spelling words are: ignorant, diseases, disasters, valuable, situation, territory, absurd, amusement, source, nonsense.
- Calvin and Hobbes quotation assignment is due Friday

- reading journal #2 is due Friday, November 21
- booktalk is due Monday, November 24

Math

- today's problems are due Wednesday
As well, there will be some math test rewrites this week. For those who have not yet attained passing grades, there will be tests likely on Thursday.

Parent Teacher Conferences

This just in...

Parent teacher meetings will be held from 6:30-8:00 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 19th and 9:00-12:00 am on Thursday Nov. 20th.
